Design... Oh the possibilities!!

Good evening!! Tonight I'm dedicating this blog post to Design.

Still exploring the avenue of beading, I recently was offered a teaching role at the local bead store in Appleton, WI.  I have the pleasure to teach three classes in November with a different project available in each class. I could not explain how happy this has made me and is incredibly rewarding.  The Glass Onion (bead store) has always been a great experience when I've picked up supplies and the family that owns it are so incredibly friendly, helpful, and resourceful.  They asked me to teach a beaded bead, my new zig zag necklace pattern I started, and my triangle sculptural earrings. Coming up with creative names for the classes is certainly a challenge and knowing I need to draw up a pattern sheet for each project makes my stomach turn cartwheels.

I've had my run of unfortunate events lately and I apologize I haven't posted any juicy fun photos of projects yet. My computer hard drive crashed due to "media failure" and it hit me like a freight train how devastating it was to think I could have possibly lost all the information I had stored on it. Of course I had never backed up my information, working on the Mac platform it never crossed my mind that my trusty computer would ever take a digger.

Unfortunate news finally turned to miracles after over a month!  After a repair quote of over $3300.00 to a possible light at the end of a tunnel, my hard drive made a safe trip to Madison, WI thanks to my amazing Papa.  He helped me find another company who would be able to potentially recover my information for a MUCH more available price. Good news turned to miracles when I got a phone call advising my hard drive magically mounted to their computer and all information was successfully recovered for $90.00!!! I felt my heart in my throat with how thankful I was. Huge thanks to Beau and his work at Graphite in Madison, WI!!

Looks like I should have my computer back as early as next week all fixed up and you betcha it's backed up too. I can't wait to get it back so I can really show everyone the creative, exciting projects I've got on the brain right now.

Hope you have a fabulous evening and keep your fingers crossed for some photography soon to follow in the next few days!

Mission Impossible: Create a Blog

I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.  ~Pablo Picasso

Where to start?  (Isn't that always the toughest challenge to overcome?)

I guess I can start by saying "Hi!" My name is Meredith Larsen and this is my first attempt at a Blog.

Dedicate:  I have dedicated my life to art and the avenues one can explore.  Within all artistic aspects and mediums, I dabble in Drawing, Illustration, Graphic Design, Jewelry, Sculpture, Painting, Fibers, Knitting, and Beading the list goes on and on!  I started my artistic career at the age of 2 winning a coloring contest and I've been running down the dream ever since.  I graduated college from University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point with a BFA in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional art and minors in graphic design and art history.  I've been noted to be insane (in a good way) with my attention to detail and how strongly I am attracted to the most intricate pieces.  (Visuals will be posted to illustrate said insanity.)

I recently moved to the Appleton/Fox Valley Area from Central Wisconsin.  It has been a very difficult transition moving away from dear friends and family, but I have been blessed with the opportunity to attempt a "stay-at-home-artist" role for the first time.  I am blessed with a fabulous glass bead store The Glass Onion that has supplied my habits since my move.  Currently I am focused on beaded jewelry (earrings, bracelets, necklaces and pendents) with hopes to create enough work to furnish my Etsy store online.  (Please note it is work in progress right now.  I am striving to have a full shop by the first of the  New Year!)

I'm hoping my blog will create an outlet for my thoughts, for conversation and for inspiration from those who find me, those who follow and those who enjoy the work I create.  Thank you for stopping by and please stop back often as there is always an adventure every day in my world.
